Black Diamond Strings

Since 1890, Black Diamond StringsĀ® have been made in the USA.  An unwavering commitment to excellence ensures that every string produced is of superior quality.

Black Diamond Strings started in 1897-98, when the Rice Musical String Company of New York, the Standard Musical String Company of Connecticut, and Mr. George Dow Emerson merged to form the National Musical String Company.  In 1932, C. Bruno and Son Inc. and James and Frank Gibson of the Gibson String Company (not associated with Gibson Guitars) bought the National Musical String Company.

C. Bruno and Son was purchased in 1970 by the Kaman Music Corporation (makers of Ovation Guitars) and renamed the Kaman Musical String Company. It moved from New Jersey to Kaman's headquarters and factory in Bloomfield, Connecticut. In 2001, the Cavanaugh family purchased the name and trademark of the National Musical String Company/Black Diamond Strings. Black Diamond Strings were once again available.

In May of 2013, The Sfarzo Guitar String Company of San Francisco, California, completed its acquisition of the former D'Aquisto guitar string factory in Long Island, New York. Honored to carry on the tradition of Black Diamond Brand Guitar Strings, Sfarzo Guitar String Company, LLC procured the exact winding machines and wrap formulas used by Cavanaugh.  Now owned and operated by Greg Sfarzo, the Legendary Black Diamond String Company moved from Cavanagh's Florida-based location to Santa Rosa, California.  The former D'Aquisto and Black Diamond manufacturing facilities now reside in Santa Rosa.

Since 1890, Black Diamond Strings has evolved significantly.  Today, Black Diamond uses sophisticated winders, modern materials, and state-of-the-art technology, yet remains the same brand that has played a significant role in the lives of prior generations. This evolution is a testament to commitment to innovation and an enduring place in musical history.
