Prim Violin Strings

Prim violin strings, made in Sweden Since 1943, are renowned for their reliable steel core, quick response, exceptional durability, and bright, warm tone.  Founded in the 1940s by cellist Gunnar Fröjel in Stockholm, Sweden, the company emerged from Gunnar’s struggle to find quality strings during World War II. Driven by necessity, he began crafting his own strings, which quickly gained popularity among his colleagues in Swedish orchestras.

Initially, the strings were made in Gunnar’s kitchen with the help of his wife.  However, as demand grew, the business moved to a larger location in Stockholm, where it continued to expand.  A key global patent early on revolutionized the string-making industry and solidified Prim's reputation.

In 1981, Gunnar's son, Urban Fröjel, took over the company, further industrializing the production process and introducing new string lines.  The company moved again in 1994 to accommodate its growth.  Today, Prim Strings is run by the third generation, with Niclas and Jessica Fröjel, Urban's children, leading the company into the future, focusing on innovation and quality.
