D'Angelico Strings

Get ready to rejoice: D'Angelico is back, and the sound is not just back - it's better than ever.  The improved sound quality will elevate your music to new heights.

In the midst of the Prohibition Era, when frivolity was shunned and hysteria reigned, jazz music was both a cause for celebration and controversy. Amid this backdrop, John D'Angelico, an expert luthier, was crafting guitars while John D'Addario was perfecting the art of string making.  Together, in the 1930s, they developed their first acoustic string, known for its loud, clear tone—a beacon of sound in a hushed time.  This string, Prohibition Bronze, became a symbol of innovation and musical rebellion.

Legendary Innovation Reborn - Over fifty years ago, a chance meeting between John D'Angelico and John D'Addario led to the invention of the world's first modern round-wound electric guitar string: the zinc-coated Bethanized™ Steel.  Its unparalleled sound—full, bright, and powerful—defined the tone of some of the most outstanding records in history.

However, the closing of the Bethlehem Steel plant in the 1960s brought an abrupt end to its production, leaving its unique sound unmatched for decades.  The Return of Electrozinc - Today, D'Angelico's legendary innovation is reborn with Electrozinc, a zinc-coated round-wound electric guitar string engineered by D'Addario.  This new string brings back the unmatched fullness, volume, and brightness that made the original Bethanized™ Steel a legend, inspiring a new era of musical excellence.

Experience the return of a classic sound.  D'Angelico Strings are back—louder and clearer than ever.
