Balalaika Strings
The balalaika, pronounced [bəɫɐˈɫajkə] in Russian, is a distinctive Russian stringed musical instrument featuring a triangular hollow body made of wood, a fretted neck, and three strings. Typically, two strings are tuned to the same note, while the third string is tuned a perfect fourth higher. Higher-pitched balalaikas are primarily employed to perform melodies and chords. Due to its short sustain, quick strumming or plucking is necessary when playing melodies. Balalaikas find frequent use in Russian folk music and dancing.
