Mandolin Family
"The 16th and 17th century mandolinos from northern Italy were small lutes with 5 or 6 courses or pairs of gut strings. The Neapolitan-style mandoline developed 4 pairs of wire strings and was used for chamber music in the 18th century. Popular in the early 20th century, this 'bowl back' mandolin was an important part of domestic music-making and the soprano of the mandolin orchestra. Today, La Bella offers a variety of gauges not only for the flat-back mandolin, an essential part of Bluegrass music, but also strings for the mandola, mandocello and mandobass."
